About VolIoT
VolIoT exists because the small operator — the shop owner, the homestead, the family clinic — keeps getting handed software designed to extract from them. Most tools in this space are built for the enterprises that can absorb their costs; we build the opposite.
Real systems that do what you asked for, owned by you, built to last. That is the entire pitch.
Heritage
Before VolIoT we built self-reliant mesh devices for power and gas transmission and distribution — micro-weather, gas-leak detection, downed-line sensing, dynamic line ratings — deployed across the United States and rural Australia. The work was real infrastructure: fires mitigated, leaks caught, line ratings tuned to the weather actually hitting the wire. Then the company was taken over by venture capital, milked for its multiples, and wound down. The hardware stayed in the field; the team did not.
What happens when good infrastructure gets sold to people who care about exit multiples instead of users is a question with one answer: it stops getting maintained, the people who built it leave, and the customers who depended on it become an inconvenience on a quarterly report. VolIoT is structured so that cannot happen here. No outside investors, no exit clock, no quiet pivot to selling user data once the original product becomes inconvenient.
People
Andy Whitehurst — founder, veteran, builder. Based in Chattanooga Tennessee. Two decades of building the kind of infrastructure most people never see: embedded firmware, mesh networks, sensor platforms, and the cloud plumbing that makes any of it useful. The work VolIoT takes on now is downstream of one observation — that most of what gets built for small operators is built to extract from them, not to serve them.
How we work
We build you a thing. If it makes money, we share in it. If it doesn't, we don't get paid — which is why we only take on projects we believe will work. The result is that you don't have to gamble on whether we're aligned; the structure of the deal makes alignment the only outcome.
